Name, Year, Birthplace

My name is Kate Bozsik and I am a MEC sophomore. I was born and raised in Akron, Ohio…made famous as the hometown of NBA player LeBron James.

Tell us something unique about you or your family.

As a child, my mom always advocated artistic creativity. Since she’s passionate about all kinds of art, I think it was natural for her to express it. So, over the years, I gained knowledge of art history and the use of different artistic mediums. I learned to play the piano and joined a youth choir. I’ve even done some flower arranging. Looking back, I see that much of my eagerness to explore new areas of art was inspired by her.

What is your favorite class?

My favorite class this semester is History of Philosophy. There’s something about trying to get inside the minds of ancient and classical philosophers that fascinates me. They certainly have a valuable perspective on reality.

What book are you reading right now and why?

Right now, I’m reading The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky. I am a sucker for the classics.

What is one of the things you love about MEC?

One of the things I love most about MEC is our integral formation. In fact, I think it might be the thing I like most. Throughout my high school years, I began realizing that more important than receiving a good “education” was receiving a solid “formation.” That means striving to reach my potential intellectually, but also humanly, spiritually, and in service to others. As evident by our mission statement, MEC helps me achieve that goal!

Can you share a quote that you like?

“We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.”
-T.S. Eliot

What is your favorite song from an MEC CD?

I actually have a favorite CD…not just a song. J It is MECs newest: Strength from Heaven. I was able to enjoy seeing the masterminds behind that beautiful compilation of psalms while they were hard at work (which, for them, seems more like play).

What does “integral formation” mean to you?
